Wildfire is the domestic risk to plan for
The National Interagency Fire Center posts national wildfire statistics. On its statistics page, updated October 25, 2026, it listed 66,373 wildfires and 9,059,044 acres burned so far this year. Those totals are national, so they say little about one valley. Even so, they show why the topic belongs in your plan.
The National Weather Service runs a wildfire weather safety page with federal and state wildland managers. It says the site helps people prepare, be aware and act early. Use that order for your own plan. Check the forecast the week before and again two days out, and write down who makes the call.
Ask the venue in writing what happens to your dates if smoke or fire closes the property, a risk the National Weather Service treats as a reason to prepare early. File the reply next to the cancellation terms.
Heat needs a plan too
The National Weather Service heat safety page says older adults and people with chronic medical conditions are more vulnerable to heat. A summer outdoor session needs a shade and water plan. Ask the lodge in writing what it has on site, and ask your group early about health needs they want you to know.
